Common Questions

Q – How much does it cost for you to look at my car? A – Absolutely nothing. We believe in our service levels and pricing so strongly that we want you to know you can come to us and not be charged a dime.

Q – Why do dealers charge so much more for transmission work than repair centers? A – Dealers normally quote to install a replacement transmission. They purchase this unit from an outside vendor and pass this cost on to you plus the labor to remove your old unit and install the replacement unit. We rebuild all of our units in-house so your transmission never gets shipped off anywhere else making our prices much more competitive. For this reason alone, we can significantly beat a dealer’s quote by hundreds of dollars and sometimes even more than that.

Q – I have a transmission leak, if I keep adding fluid to it can I safely keep driving it for a while? A – Probably not. Most people do not realize how much fluid is leaking out and only add fluid when they feel their transmission slipping or engaging stranger than normal. Because of this fact, everytime the transmission loses too much fluid there will be some damage incurred. The best recommendation is to bring your vehicle in to accurately diagnose where the leak is coming from and fix it very soon before it causes substantial internal damage and a higher repair bill.

Q – How long will it take to rebuild my transmission? A – The average vehicle will generally take 2 to 4 days. On Day 1 we will remove the transmission and tear it down. At that point we thoroughly inspect every part and place an order for parts. On Day 2/3 we receive the ordered parts and start actually rebuilding your transmission, which can take anywhere from 4-12 hours depending on the complexity of your transmission type. On Day 3/4 we reinstall your transmission and ensure everything is working properly and finally release the vehicle back to you. Most minor repairs can be done in one day.

Q – I think I have a transmission problem, will changing the fluid help that? A – We highly recommend you do not change the fluid yourself if you think you have a transmission problem. A well trained technician should diagnose your symptom first before any service is performed. Simply changing the transmission fluid will not fix any internal transmission problem.

Q – Am I better off doing a complete overhaul or just fixing the part(s) that need replaced on my automatic transmission? A – To replace the worn parts we still have to remove, break open, repair and reinstall the transmission just like for a rebuilt transmission. The biggest cost involved with rebuilding or repairing a transmission is the labor. Therefore, doing a standard overhaul versus ‘patching’ your transmission is not substantially more expensive for the extra basis parts that should be replaced. Additionally, with a rebuild you receive a full warranty whereas a ‘patch’ fix will only have a warranty on the parts replaced and not the whole transmission.

Q – Do you offer a warranty? A – We stand behind our work whole-heartedly. Every rebuilt transmission is given a standard 12 month warranty. The warranty is renewable annually at your convenience. We need only to inspect the car and do any service maintenance required for that extension. Many others try to sell you a longer warranty upfront causing your repair bill to be much higher. We believe you shouldn’t have to spend so much money upfront and coming back annually ensures proper maintenance and long life of your transmission not to mention peace of mind for you.

Q – I have heard higher mileage cars should not have their fluid changed, is that true and why? A – Generally speaking, vehicles with 80,000+ miles should have a qualified transmission center inspect the vehicle first. If you are experiencing any transmission related symptoms and the transmission has not been properly maintained, then you may not want to change your fluid. We say this because the fluid inside of an improperly maintained transmission becomes dirty and gritty and it is this contaminated fluid that is can actually be providing the necessary friction for the parts causing your symptoms. Removing this contaminated fluid can quite possibly accelerate your symptoms. If you are not experiencing any transmission problems and have maintained your transmission properly, then servicing the transmission is probably fine. Consult your owners manual for required servicing of your transmission type.

Q – Why do you have to physically inspect and diagnose the vehicle before giving me a quote over the phone? A – An accurate quote requires an accurate diagnosis. Transmission symptoms such as slipping, harsh or erratic shifting, or slow/delayed engagement can imply a wide array of possible root causes. Those causes be either external or internal to the transmission. You are not charged for our inspection so it does not cost you anything. Anyone that that diagnoses your problems over the phone is not doing you any favors and you can be surprised at the end with a much higher repair bill.
